About Islam

Islam is the Abraham’s religion and is the world’s second largest religion after Christianity.

Muslims read the Quran.

The population of Muslims is estimated to be over 1.3 billion people out of 1.48 billion people world population.18% lives in the Arab countries. It is reported that the religion is rapidly growing and will become the most popular world religion in the mid 21st century.

Followers of Islam are known as Muslims. They believe that god, or Allah in Arabic revealed himself to Muhammad and other prophets including Jesus, Adam and Moses.

Oneness of god (tawhid) is the fundamental concept in Islam.

Islam means submission and is open to all regardless of their race, age, gender or previous beliefs.

Muslims have traditionally viewed Islamic law as very important to their religious.

Many Muslims living in western countries, sharia ceases to be relevant as law but it remains a source of individual ethics. One has to be responsible for his actions. For example, the avoidance of pork and alcohol.

Pillars of Islam

Islamic religion has five pillars that are the most important obligations of all Muslims under sharia law. The five pillars are fundamental aspect of Islam because they guide all Muslims to their duties of performing faithfully to please Allah.

These five pillars are:

  1. Shahadah: this the testimony that there is none other worthy of worship except god and the Muhammad and his messenger
  2. Ramadan: this is fasting from dawn to dusk during the observance of the holy month of Ramadan
  3. Hajj: this is the holy pilgrimage to Mecca during the month of dhul hijja
  4. Zakat: this is the giving of zakaa (charity) which is 2.5% of the net worth of possessions kept for more than a year. The money or produce is distributed among the poor.
  5. Salah: this is establishing the five daily prayers (salah)

The messenger of Allah said, Islam is to testify that there is no god but Allah and Muhammad is the messenger of Allah to perform prayer, to pay zakat, to fast in Ramadan and to make pilgrimage to the house if you are able to do so”.
