Christianity is an old age religion that is still practiced in the present as one of the dominant religions with a great number of followers. Christianity is a religion whose followers believe in Jesus Christ the son of God and are known as Christians. It is founded on the profession that Jesus Christ died and was buried. He resurrected and will come again to save the living and the dead.
Christianity has many denominations as a result of a break off from the main church during the early 16th century called the protestant reformation that incorporated the reformation of doctrines and practices. The protestant reformation challenged the authority of the pope and split from the Roman Catholic, this reformation became famous in the European continent and further disagreement on practices and doctrines led to further splits into denominations such as Lutheran Baptists and Methodists.
Apart from Seventh Day Adventists who worship on Saturday, Christians worship on Sundays through different liturgical practices but with common ones such as the Eucharist. Scriptures from both the Old Testament and the New Testaments of the Bible are read but emphasis is placed on the Gospels, and then a sermon is given based on them. Different denominations have different congregational prayers and the most regular prayer is The Lord’s Prayer which Jesus taught his disciples.
The liturgical worship includes the Eucharist in different forms. Some Christians practice closed communion whereby the Eucharist is restricted to specific people as per their beliefs while other s practice open Communion whereby anybody can participate.
Christianity has Holy days that include Christmas when Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus and Easter when the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ is celebrated.
In the recent times Christianity has been subjected to a lot of criticism and violent outbursts from anti-Christian groups but this has not deterred the continuous growth of the religion.
